Liverpool Face Latics At DW

Will Carroll get a start?...

Liverpool make the short trip to the DW Stadium on Wednesday to face a rejuvenated Wigan side. Martinez's team are still hovering around the bottom of the table but some inspired performances of late have given them some much needed confidence. This could be a surprise package for the Reds who on paper would be down for three points by anyone's standards.

Injuries for Liverpool mean that once again Steven Gerrard and Lucas Leiva are unavailable. Jay Spearing is serving the last of his three match ban and it is believed that Dalglish may rest Welshman Craig Bellamy. With the outcome of the Suarez case being one Liverpool did not expect to hear (club statement) we may also see Suarez left out.

For Wigan, they are expected to be without defender Emmerson Boyce and there is also a doubt over Hugo Rodallega which could be a big blow for Wigan.

Our most recent meeting with Wigan was in February of this year. The match ended in a 1-1 draw for Liverpool with the now Chelsea player Raul Meireles scoring.

For a Wigan win over Liverpool we only have to go back to March 2010, the Latics put two past Pepe Reina to secure all three points. Aside from this fixture however, Liverpool have never lost at the DW Stadium.

Stat Sandwich

  • Liverpool have hit the bar and post 17 times so far this season.
  • Wigan have only won once at home this season.
  • If Glen Johnson starts it will be his 200th league appearance in his career.

I can't make my mind up as to whether Suarez will start or not, to be honest, i can see him being chosen by Kenny Dalglish, not only to show his support but to show that no matter what is going on off the pitch, it won't affect the club on it.

I'd like to see Maxi start if I'm honest because no offence to Jordan Henderson but i feel he's been ineffective of late, he's young and still has a lot to learn but at the moment i don't feel he should be starting game in game out when we have such an attacking flair available in Maxi Rodriguez.

I'm going to punt for a 2-0 win for the Reds tonight, here's hoping we can pick up another 3 points over this important Christmas period.
