Rodgers Sacked After Draw In Merseyside Derby

Image
Liverpool managed to collect a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon, but the real headline fell to Brendan Rodgers when just an hour after the game had finished FSG decided to sack their manager. The news filtered through later in the evening sending Twitter into a storm. Some fans were elated other were saddened, some, like myself weren't really sure what they were feeling but I think most would agree it was time for a change.
I don't want to go too much into the fate of Brendan Rodgers as I will cover this in my Shoot post on Wednesday (follow my Twitter to see it first - @LFCKirstyLFC).

Prior to kick off it looked as though Liverpool might have been given a lifeline when it became clear neither Stones or Coleman would be available in defence. A recently returned  Daniel Sturridge would surely be able to take advantage of the weakened back four?

Sturridge though would not be the man in focus, in fact it would be his fellow forward Danny Ings.

MATCH PREVIEW: Liverpool V Aston Villa

Image
As the plot continues to thicken around the managerial future of Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool simply have to collect all three points in order to take some pressure off the boss and in order to get themselves moving in the right direction in the league.

The Reds have picked up some additions to their injury list recently after Roberto Firmino and Dejan Lovren both came off during the League Cup clash with Carlisle. Also unavailable is Christian Benteke who is nursing a hamstring problem.

For Aston Villa, they have suffered a blow after Agbonlahor picked up an injury against Birmingham. Also potentially unavailable is Adama Traore who may not make the start and a doubt hangs over the fitness of Idrissa Gana.

The last time the two sides met was in the FA Cup semi-final last year. I was so annoyed at the end of this game and I still can't ever support a decision to bring on Glen Johnson when you're 2-1 down in a semi-final?! Villa of course won the game and Christian Benteke was o…

Bogdan Puts Reds Through To Next Round

Today's match report will be very short and factual I'm afraid as like many I didn't see the match last night only the penos live and then the highlights so I'll just be stating what actually happened as of course I can't really offer any of my usual opinions which is a shame because I like a good rant! Haha.

Liverpool had a massive 47 shots at goal on Wednesday evening with 16 on target. To convert just one of those efforts to me is diabolical but as I say, I didn't see the full game so I don't think it's fair to comment. From what I saw coming through on social media it appeared as though whilst efforts were aplenty they were all sort of snapshot chances and from range.

In the first half it fell to Danny Ings to put Liverpool in front. The forward who also scored in the league against Norwich got on the end of a cross from Adam Lallana and headed home Liverpool's first and only goal of the game before penalties.

Despite going ahead in the game th…

West Ham Record First Win At Anfield Since 1963

Image
Liverpool fell to an embarrassing defeat at Anfield on Saturday as West Ham notched up an historic win at Anfield, their first victory here since 1963. The Hammers put three past a sloppy Liverpool side who failed miserably in their defensive duties and were unable to create any real attacking threat.

West Ham took just three minutes to get off the mark at the Kop End. A relatively poor defensive header from Skrtel allowed the ball to fall into the path of Cresswell who despite being closed down by Clyne was able to assist Lanzini who fired home the first goal of the game.

The goal left the Reds somewhat shell-shocked and we didn't react positively after going 1-0 down. Attacking wise we didn't appear to pose a significant threat and Christian Benteke for me once again looked completely lost. He's wasted in Brendan's preferred formation and it's seriously beginning to do my head in. The sooner Sturridge is back, the better.

The Reds' best hope of getting back …
