Bogdan Puts Reds Through To Next Round

Today's match report will be very short and factual I'm afraid as like many I didn't see the match last night only the penos live and then the highlights so I'll just be stating what actually happened as of course I can't really offer any of my usual opinions which is a shame because I like a good rant! Haha.

Liverpool had a massive 47 shots at goal on Wednesday evening with 16 on target. To convert just one of those efforts to me is diabolical but as I say, I didn't see the full game so I don't think it's fair to comment. From what I saw coming through on social media it appeared as though whilst efforts were aplenty they were all sort of snapshot chances and from range.

In the first half it fell to Danny Ings to put Liverpool in front. The forward who also scored in the league against Norwich got on the end of a cross from Adam Lallana and headed home Liverpool's first and only goal of the game before penalties.

MATCH PREVIEW: Liverpool V Carlisle

Image
Sorry about the missing Norwich posts folks, as you probably know I popped to Barcelona for a few days before I return to University for my final year and so unfortunately I was unable to do those posts. However, I'm back and ready to provide you with some sort of preview for our League Cup clash with Carlisle.

After picking up a draw against Norwich at the weekend, Liverpool are in desperate need of a change in fortune after failing to win in their last four matches in all competitions. Carlisle come in to this game on relatively good form having drew their last fixture and won four out of their last five prior to that in all competitions.

For Brendan Rodgers, he must realise the growing pressure on his shoulders and therefore surely he's aiming to take this competition seriously? His choice of line up for the Europa League game against Bordeaux however suggests that he is prepared to give fringe players a chance in games away from the league.

So with the eve of 50 years since Shankly showed up at the Liverpool quarters nearly upon us, the 1st of December will mark exactly 5 decades since the great man began his reign at Liverpool Football Club.

William (Bill) Shankly was born on the 2nd September 1913. A small, isolated village in Ayrshire - Scotland would be host to the young life of arguably the greatest ever manager to grace the football league.

Shankly began his footballing career in 1931 when he became a player for his local team - Cronberry Eglinton. A year later he headed for Carlisle United but it wasn't until he again moved clubs to Preston North End that his playing abilities were truly realised.

His successes at PNE included;

Playing statistics:
Debut: 9th December 1933 v Hull City

Goals: 13
Honours:
1933-34 Runners Up Division 2
1936-37 F.A. Cup Runners Up
