Manninger, Alisson, Philippe sold: A tale of the Liverpool transfer window.

Beautiful South anyone?

The Yorkshire band may have a point in the lyrics of Song for Whoever... "I forget your name." That phrase could easily be applied to several mind-boggling Liverpool transfers of the recent past, but not this year!

Gone are the days where the Reds would offer a short-term contract to an ageing Austrian goalkeeper (Manninger). In are the days where Liverpool break the world record transfer fee for a goalkeeper (Alisson) and in are the days where L4 completes shrewd business allowing star players to leave but for a considerable profit (Philippe Coutinho).

It wasn't that long ago when Kopites up and down the country were sat in front of the blinding Sky Sports yellow ticker tape, reading the breaking news that the Reds had spent £35 million on Andy Carroll.

In recent years, transfer windows for Liverpool fans have been something to fear, not look forward to. A sense of panic would always arise leading to inflated prices, the purchase of players in posit…

Lucas to Lazio and more transfer talk

It looks increasingly likely that Italian outfit Lazio will seal the signing of Lucas Leiva this week for £5 million. The Brazilian entered his 10th year at Liverpool Football Club in 2017 and while it's impossible to deny that his time here has consisted of some ups and downs, overall he has been a phenomenal servant to the club.

Signed by Rafa Benitez weirdly also for £5 million in 2007, he started his first game in November of that year. Lucas Leiva was the first ever Brazilian to score for Liverpool, a fact I always forget.

Throughout his Liverpool career I always appeared to be that fan who was constantly backing Lucas up, whilst others became frustrated I just saw dips in form as just that, a blip.

Lucas was invaluable at times to Liverpool and for me he was one of those players who you didn't really appreciate until he was gone. His ability to control the game defensively from the midfield, breaking up the play of the opposition assisted Liverpool on countless occasions…

Transfer Round Up

The transfer window certainly hasn't slammed shut just yet but Liverpool have already secured a bit of business with the main transaction being the extension of Jurgen Klopp's stay at Anfield. No complaints here.
The Reds first real signing I suppose was Joel Matip who had already agreed pre-conditions with the Reds and had to wait until the summer in order for all the i's to be dotted and t's to be crossed. I must confess I don't know a hell of a lot about Matip but from what I have seen/read he seems like a great fit for the back line. At 24 he's certainly one for the future and I'm always a sucker for a goalscoring defender!
"I am certain that this is the right moment for me to take the next step in my career." - Joel Matip
Next up is Loris Karius the German goalkeeper, according to several fans and pundits Loris could even feature ahead of Simon Mignolet come season start. Purchased as competition, he may be favoured by Jurgen Klopp who has adm…
