3 Games, 3 Clean Sheets, 3 Wins: Five Things We Learned

1) We can win ugly

For me, the main thing we should take away from today's victory over Brighton is the fact that Liverpool are now a team that can "win ugly". It's a phrase that's been thrown around regularly for teams such as Manchester United or Chelsea, teams who are always in the mix at the top of the table and seem to have that annoying ability to see out a result despite playing terribly.

I wouldn't go as far to say Liverpool were terrible on Saturday, far from it, but the Reds were definitely below par. For me though, instead of being a negative, this is actually extremely encouraging. Similar to the Palace result, the Reds were able to hold on to a slim lead and convert it into an all-important three points.

Brighton were always going to be a difficult side to play against because the Reds have always struggled under Klopp against organised teams. This season however, Klopp seems to have found the key to unlock the points in these tight situations and …

PREVIEW: Liverpool V Brighton & Hove Albion

Liverpool welcome Brighton to Anfield on Saturday afternoon as the Reds look to continue their winning start in the Premier League. Crystal Palace created a bit of a test for Jurgen Klopp's side on Monday night but back at Anfield many are hoping the Reds might be able to make the most of their effective attack.

Injuries for Liverpool mean they are still unable to call upon Dejan Lovren. For Brighton, they are potentially going to be without Lewis Dunk who picked up an injury in Brighton's win over Manchester United.

The last time the two sides met was in May this year. Liverpool put four past Brighton at Anfield with goals from Salah, Lovren, Solanke and Robertson. The Reds also put several goals in the Brighton net during their last trip to the Amex. In December 2017 the game ended 5-1, Firmino scored a brace that day.

It's very early days but Liverpool fans all over are already daring to think about the title. Even the neutrals are starting to say that the Reds are the on…

Champions League Secured

Image
A comfortable win for Liverpool over Brighton at Anfield on Sunday has secured the Reds' place in Europe's elite for another season. Prior to kick off with Chelsea on their tail, it could have been a tricky afternoon for Klopp's side but in the end, it was a walk in the park.
Mo Salah opened up the scoring, stretching his lead for the golden boot. Harry Kane tried his best in Spurs' tie with Leicester but thankfully the forward remained behind, nobody that desperate to steal a goal off a teammate should win the boot! Salah thorough deserved the award. In the process, the Egyptian also broke the record for the most goals scored in a 38 game Premier League season. Phenomenal.
The remainder of the score sheet for the Reds contained some interesting names. Dejan Lovren who we've seen net a couple, but not often, managed to find a header just before half time.
In the second half, Solanke with a great strike put his side 3-0 up. It was his first goal for the club.
Then fi…

Hat Trick Of Own Goals Dunk Brighton Out Of Cup

Image
Liverpool secured their place in the quarter finals of the FA Cup on Sunday after beating Brighton 6-1 at Anfield. Stoke were drawn out of the hat for Liverpool and the Reds will once again be at home as they look to close down on Wembley for a second time this season.

Gus Poyet set aside some time to share an embrace with his fellow countryman Luis Suarez before kick off but his little chat didn't appear to put Suarez off after the forward finished the game with Liverpool's 6th.

Dalglish despite some thoughts that he may field some youngsters went for a very strong side. The only real change strangely was the introduction of Carragher into the defence and most people wouldn't really moan at that anyway.

The Reds took less than 5 minutes to get off the mark after taking their chance from a Gerrard corner. A rising Skrtel at the near post put Liverpool ahead with a confident header.

Brighton after conceding so early still looked pretty strong and the final scoreline was pe…

FA Cup Brings Brighton To Anfield

Image
Liverpool welcome Gus Poyet's Brighton & Hove Albion to Anfield on Sunday for the 5th round of the FA Cup. The two sides have already met this season when the Reds got the better of Brighton on their home turf in the League Cup.

Brighton don't have any major injury worries and their two on loan players from Manchester City are expected to make their debuts; Abdul Razak & Gai Assulin.

For Liverpool there are no new injury worries but something that certainly slipped my radar was the fact that Maxi Rodriguez had picked up a foot injury? Apparently he's ok now though and may be in contention for Sunday's clash. Manager Kenny Dalglish has also dropped the hint that he might start some of the young uns.

The last time the two sides met Craig Bellamy and Dirk Kuyt scored whilst an Ashley Barnes penalty gained Brighton some consolation.

Brighton were very strong in that game though and almost caused an upset for Liverpool. With the tie being at Anfield Liverpool can p…

Bellamy Gets Off The Mark In Liverpool Win

Image
It was end to end stuff last night in Brighton as Gus Poyet's boys looked to cause an upset for Liverpool. An inspired performance from Brighton was threatening to take the game from the Reds on several occasions but in the end the home side had to settle for a consolation goal from the penalty spot.

Craig Bellamy opened the scoring for Liverpool with Kuyt getting the second. Captain Steven Gerrard made his first appearance for 6 months and all things considered it was a good win for the lads.

The first goal of the night came just 6 minutes in after a lively Liverpool start. Dalglish had fielded a strong line up, backing his seriousness to take on this competition, but Andy Carroll was one big names on the bench. Instead Welshman Craig Bellamy got a start, still awaiting his first goal this was the perfect sort of game for Bellamy to get off the mark, and that he did.

An assist from Suarez allowed Bellamy to send the ball home from inside the box and put Liverpool ahead.

Bellamy …

Brighton In The Cup For Reds

Image
Liverpool travel to the home of the seagulls tomorrow for their league cup fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion. Promoted from league one last season, the seaside club are finding themselves in a bit of good form. The Reds on the other hand will be looking to quickly forget about their embarrassing defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on the weekend and hopefully progress through the competition.

For those who don't know a lot about Brighton & Hove Albion, i will attempt to give you a bit of background information...

Brighton's perhaps most famous manager was the legendary Brian Clough, after only one season in charge however, he didn't see as much success down South as he did up North. Managerial wise it took until 2009 for Brighton to have a manager from outside the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Gus Poyet who hails from Uruguay is the current manager and most would agree he's doing a splendid job at the moment.

Brighton some people will also know had…
