Battle Of Merseyside: Victorious Reds

Image
Kuyt reaches 50 goals.
The "friendly derby" they say, well judging by one of the first crunching tackles from Jamie Carragher on Stephen Pienaar, that was the yard stick for the game ahead. After leaving him on the floor and then trotting back to defence it was clear that this was going to be more about the battle and less about the wits.
With Everton on such a good run of form recently and the fact that they are still waiting to end their 11 year run of not being able to beat Liverpool on Anfield turf. Along with the pitiful fact that it is now 15years of trophy-less seasons for our bitter blue neighbours, they definitely had a point to prove.
Despite this, they never really turned up. They had flashes, but whatever minor threat they posed or chance they had it was dealt with. Perhaps not in a neat and tidy fashion but the fact is, the boys did us proud.
For the first half an hour or so, you would be forgiven for thinking that you had in fact turned up at an amphitheatre with t…

Martinez's Lactics Travel To Anfield

Wigan are next up at Anfield tomorrow night in what should be an unpredictable midweek fixture for the lads. Firstly going by our own recent form, anything could happen and secondly looking at Wigan, they beat Chelsea, but they also fell to a massive 9-1 defeat from Spurs so which Wigan will turn up?

For Liverpool Riera, Kelly, NEZ and Babel are all still expected to be unavailable. Wigan's only problem is Emmerson Boyce after a head injury he sustained in the Stoke match.

Martinez is not expecting this to be an easy fixture though even with our boys on the back of some bad results he was quoted saying:

"Liverpool are on the back of a disappointing result, but they have a world-class squad which alone makes them a very dangerous side."Effectively he is right we do arguably have a world class squad especially in the likes of Gerrard, Torres, Reina, Mascherano etc but from the performances so far this season you wouldn't think so would you? It's only a matter of time…

Pride Of Merseyside

Liverpool were met with success yesterday after putting two past a lively Everton side and also managing to keep a clean sheet for the first time away from home this season.
Liverpool started a strong side although Fernando Torres was still not available after his late fitness test. Aurelio, Riera and Benayoun were all options after the 'horse placenta' continued to prove it's worth. Nabil El Zhar was also on the bench back from injury and of course Aquilani.
It only took 12 minutes for Liverpool to capitalize after Javier Mascherano opted for a punt from outside the area, after the shot took a deflection from Everton's Yobo it headed past a beaten Howard and the lads were 1-0 up. Mascherano was absolutely ecstatic judging by his celebration, it's just a shame that the "dubious goals committee" appear to have awarded it to Jospeh Yobo nevertheless the passion from Mascherano was clear to see.
For the rest of the first half there were many points to highlight…
