Maxi Nets A Hat Trick In 5-0 Rout

Can't remember what game it was, think it was a terrible footy game on the Gamecube but i finally got to mimic the Japanese sounding commentator... "Joh-Coh-Gohlll!" ...
After recent fixtures against the Midlands side it was looking as though this one could be tough for Liverpool. The refreshing resurgence since the arrival of manager Kenny Dalglish has still seen us falter on a few occasions and Birmingham were ready to try to cause an upset.

An emphatic performance from Liverpool though saw them embarrass Alex McCleish's side in a 5-0 win without Andy Carroll who was in the stands and also minus a goal from Luis Suarez who put in more of an assisting role for a superb 90minutes.

It took just shy of 7 minutes for Liverpool to add a spark to the game. A stinging effort from Jay Spearing was parried away by Ben Foster only to come out into the path of Maxi Rodriguez, the Argentine made no mistakes and sent the ball into the Birmingham net.

Jay Spearing was yet again an…

Birmingham Look For Win At Anfield

Flanagan will look to impress again...
Birmingham City are the guests at Anfield tomorrow as Liverpool look to break this drawing business with the Midlands side. The last time a win was recorded for Liverpool was a League Cup tie in the 06/07 season and even then only a 1 nil lead held them up.

Some interesting clashes in recent seasons including the now infamous "Ngog penalty" match mean tomorrow could be an interesting one for Dalglish and his boys.

For me, Birmingham don't really have any star players but they work excellently as a team. With Ben Foster having a good stint in goal and being protected by the likes of Ridgewell and Carr it may explain why they've only conceded 6 goals in their last 5 matches, this included a tough match against Chelsea. Ok that's averaging more than a goal a game but for a side of Birmingham's calibre you can't fault it.

Players like Zigic will look to cause problems in our shaken defence but if the performance from Flan…

Reina Prevents Reds Defeat

Yer wha?! I can't hear yer!
It was a tough game yesterday for Liverpool and to be honest by the end of the 90minutes it could have been a less flattering scoreline. Despite the best efforts from the Reds it was the heroics of Pepe Reina that kept our dignity and in turn the point.
I did say in my match preview that this away fixture wouldn't be a walk in the park but analyzing Liverpool's chances/play it wasn't particularly fantastic.
Roy decided to go with Maxi Rodriguez in place of the injured Dirk Kuyt which i was quite happy to see. The rest of midfield was made up of Lucas, Poulsen and Jovanovic. Gerrard sat behind Torres, Reina in goal and a back four of new man Konchesky along with Carragher, Skrtel and Glen Johnson.
It was a match built up to be entertaining but one that unfortunately failed to meet expectations. Birmingham started the game well and were strong in attack, Liverpool appeared caught off guard, they knew the Blues would come at them but their rate of …

Can Liverpool Come Away With More Than Just The 1 Point?

Raul trains with Reds before Birmingham clash...
So after what seemed like a hell of a long international break, Liverpool swing back into action on Sunday against Midlanders - Birmingham City. Liverpool were quite lucky in terms of injuries with all the players coming back from duties with their countries in good shape, Dirk Kuyt however was an exception after he injured his shoulder. He is expected to be out for quite a while so this could prove problematic for Roy.
Liverpool are also without Fabio Aurelio who is still recovering from an achilles problem and David Ngog also picked up a knock but may still be available for Roy to select on Sunday.
As pictured new signing Raul Meireles was also training with the rest of the boys so could most certainly feature in this difficult clash against the Blues.
Not forgetting too for the Reds that Joe Cole still has one match left on his ban for receiving his red card at the start of the season.
Birmingham also have a couple of injury worries and e…

Far From Eggs-cellent

Gerrard celebrates passionately in front of the fans... What?...
You didn't seriously think i would go through the Easter weekend without adding a really bad Easter related pun in somewhere did you?
On a more sombre note though, yesterday's result saw the grey clouds regather over an already subdued and annoyed Liverpool fan base. There were numerous moments throughout the game that were top of the moaners lists.
Make no bones about it, i had a moan myself, but quite astonishingly it is again clear as to what most fans feel and what most fans are more concerned about at this moment in time.
Whilst my first reaction was the sheer fear of what finishing out of fourth place could do to us. I.e. with Hicks and Gillett already dragging the club into so much debt, they idiotically based our finances on assumption of qualification into the Champions League, failing to do so could see us add another £40million or so to our already unsteady financial situation.
With the deadline having to be…

Reds Face Birmingham For Easter Sunday Clash

Birmingham's top goalscorer Jerome is on a tally of 9 goals...
Liverpool go in to tomorrow afternoon's fixture looking to improve on the performance earlier in the season against Birmingham City which saw them leave Anfield that night with just the one point. It was a scrap to even come away with the 2-2 draw that evening, so Liverpool should know to be weary of a revamped Premier League style Birmingham.
Just to make things worse, Liverpool have not beaten the Blues since may 2004. Over the 6 meetings we have lost twice and drew on the remaining 4 occasions. Despite our head to head stats in the league, we have in the midst of all this beaten Brum in the FA Cup (remember the 7-0?) and also in the League Cup.
Benitez is not one to dismiss the ability of the recently promoted side either, he was quoted saying:
"They are doing well. It has been a very good season for them. They are a good team, with a good spirit who work hard for each other.
"You could see from their game …

A Story Of Wasted Chances

Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw at Anfield last night and no matter how you look at it you can't help but feel that result is unsatisfactory. With a generally strong 11 fielded, numerous chances and an opposition that shouldn't have really posed much of a threat it is no wonder many a fan is more than disappointed.

Along with the run of results in the league, the situation of Champions League qualification and just general bad luck it appeared that things couldn't get much worse for Liverpool and Birmingham City at home was the ideal fixture to start the league turn around.
13 minutes in and after David N'Gog's persistence, eventually he drives the ball past Joe Hart with a superb effort. The ball is crossed in by Riera, N'Gog connects perfectly and smashes the ball into the roof of the net.
So after starting positively and getting on the score sheet early on in the game, the positivity seemed to be heading back but as you can guess, the script simply wasn't…

Liverpool Welcome Birmingham City To Anfield On Monday Night

Birmingham City travel to Anfield tomorrow and i should hope that Alex McLeish turns up more prepared than he did to The Molineux yesterday after forgetting his remembrance day poppy. Luckily he did manage to sort the situation out and eventually took his seat in the stand complete with poppy but will he be able to sort out the situation at Anfield?

Birmingham are currently sitting 15th in the table with the prospect of moving further down depending on results today. So there is no doubt that the Blues will be looking to improve on their current league position and will be more than up for the game at Anfield.

Top goalscorer at the moment for the Midlands side is Lee Bowyer although a grand total of 3 in all competitions is hardly something to be too weary about. Goals appear to be a key aspect Birmingham are lacking, let's hope that this problem continues to occur on Monday.
So with the news flying around that Gerrard may start, he may not start, Torres may start, he may not start i…
