Reds Put 4 Past Valerenga But Lose To Celtic

Image
By the reaction on Twitter after Saturday's loss to Celtic you would think the world was about to end! And yes, whilst the performance was poor I can't be the only one requesting the drama queens to calm their passions. I love Twitter I really do but sometimes it just does your nut in! Unsurprisingly the reaction to the 4-1 win over Valerenga was a lot brighter on social media.

Suarez was left out of the Valerenga group that travelled to Norway, apparently due to injury but we all know better than that and John Henry certainly made the club's stance on Luis Suarez a lot clearer after the Norway trip.

It was a young side fielded by Rodgers in Norway but he also made 10 changes at half time. It was an easy win for the Reds who had goals from new signings Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas whilst Raheem Sterling and Martin Kelly also joined the score sheet. The first goal conceded in their pre-season also appeared in this game for Liverpool as Gonzalez found the back of the net for…

Reds Win In Edinburgh

Image
It wasn't exactly a pretty performance nor was it very controlled but it was a win nonetheless and by the end of the 90 minutes Liverpool's experience had helped them to a 1-0 victory over a plucky Hearts side.

A mixed side from Brendan saw plenty of youth given the chance with the likes of Martin Kelly, Jack Robinson and starlet Raheem Sterling all starting. Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger added some experience in the back four though as they lined up against a strong Hearts.

Andy Carroll travelled with the squad but was unable to feature due to a knock previously mentioned by Rodgers, Fabio Borini instead played up front.

Hearts had a very good first half and forced Pepe Reina into a couple of saves. Players like Templeton were oozing with confidence and causing Liverpool plenty of problems. Liverpool on the other hand were sort of tootling along, nothing special and a few sloppy passes but it was a weakened side.

One person that did stand out though for Liverpool was Rahe…

Reds Called Up For England Duties

Image
With the Euros starting on Friday, kicking off with host nation Poland facing Greece I thought it would be nice to do a round up of the Liverpool players at the England camp in Poland. Injuries to some of the England players meant that the original 4 Liverpool squad members was increased to 6 by Roy Hodgson.

Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard is England's captain for Euro 2012 as chosen by Roy Hodgson. As Liverpool's long standing captain we all know he has a real presence over 90 minutes and can encourage or spark a performance out of most players.

More so than ever though Steven Gerrard is left in a tough position because Hodgson's side this year is one of change and of youth. There's some experience next to Gerrard in Scott Parker but many of the midfielders and forwards are lacking in England caps.

Gerrard is of course more effective in a more attacking role but in this particular England set up and in Roy's plans he will have to settle for a more defensive one. The…

Liverpool Through To Semi Finals

Image
Liverpool have booked themselves a place in the Carling Cup Semi Finals after beating Chelsea for the second time in ten days at Stamford Bridge. The 2-0 win saw Martin Kelly and Maxi Rodriguez bag the Reds their goals whilst Chelsea couldn't even muster a consolation.

Dalglish was true to his word and fielded a lot of different faces, Enrique, Reina, Lucas and Henderson however kept their positions after the Man City draw at the weekend.

Villas-Boas had also thrown in some non regulars in the likes of Turnbull, Bertrand, Lukaku etc. Arguably the Chelsea second string seemed a lot weaker than Liverpool's.

Very early on in the game there were two penalty decisions before a third was given. David Luiz went down in the box after a Coates challenge and the referee decided to give Luiz a yellow card for simulation. I think to be honest in a different game the penalty may have been given but it was good to see that Dowd did give a card, too many referees see a player diving in the …

Incentive For Reds As They Search For 5th Win & 5th Clean Sheet

Image
It will be no surprise if the on fire Raul Meireles scores again tomorrow...
Liverpool are in search of a 5th win on the bounce tomorrow as they welcome Wigan to Anfield. Also on the back of four clean sheets, Dalglish's side will surely be brimming with confidence going into this fixture against a side in 18th place.

With results seeing a major improvement at Liverpool it is very hard to look at this clash and not predict a Liverpool win. With solid defensive displays and clear attacking options, even without using our two new signings, surely 3 points are within our reach tomorrow.

However, it is vital we don't push aside Wigan's valiant efforts in a mad weekend of football last week. A battle with Blackburn saw them eventually take all three points after beating fellow Lancashire neighbours 4-3.

Liverpool have never lost to Wigan at home but despite this strong home record, as recently as March of last season i am sure you will all remember a 1-0 defeat at the hands of W…

Seasiders Ready For Battle Of The Pools

Will it be a sweet ending for Liverpool tomorrow?...
Premier League new comers Blackpool would usually be a blessing to read on the fixture list for Liverpool, especially at home. But after the Reds worst start in the top flight since the 53/54 season, all of a sudden confidence appears to be low.
In your head you still like to feel as though Liverpool will be down for a set win here, pop it on your accumulator it's a no brainer right? I hate to say it but tomorrow has a very strange aura about it and it feels as though if the Reds aren't careful they could be in for a kick in the teeth.
An almost fully fit Blackpool side missing only Alex Baptiste will be well up for this kind of game, along with the character and passion of manager Ian Holloway, if they can get an early goal who knows.
Of course we shouldn't and can't forget the mauling Blackpool received from title challengers Chelsea in a game they lost 4-0. Chelsea back in 08/09 were a team we were fighting with, now …

Reds Face Birmingham For Easter Sunday Clash

Image
Birmingham's top goalscorer Jerome is on a tally of 9 goals...
Liverpool go in to tomorrow afternoon's fixture looking to improve on the performance earlier in the season against Birmingham City which saw them leave Anfield that night with just the one point. It was a scrap to even come away with the 2-2 draw that evening, so Liverpool should know to be weary of a revamped Premier League style Birmingham.
Just to make things worse, Liverpool have not beaten the Blues since may 2004. Over the 6 meetings we have lost twice and drew on the remaining 4 occasions. Despite our head to head stats in the league, we have in the midst of all this beaten Brum in the FA Cup (remember the 7-0?) and also in the League Cup.
Benitez is not one to dismiss the ability of the recently promoted side either, he was quoted saying:
"They are doing well. It has been a very good season for them. They are a good team, with a good spirit who work hard for each other.
"You could see from their game …

Liverpool Suffer 2nd Champion's League Defeat

Image
Liverpool suffered another defeat after Lyon netted the winning goal at Anfield in the 90th minute. The lads have now gone on a run of four successive defeats, the last time this happened was in 1987. These are testing times at Liverpool and after tonight's performance, Champions League qualification is set to become a less than ideal struggle for the Reds.
Liverpool started the game with the right tempo and mentality and had fielded a relatively strong 11 under the circumstances. The only exceptions being N'Gog in for Torres and a certain Martin Kelly drafted in for Glen Johnson who was ruled out with a groin problem.

All seemed steady for Liverpool for the beginning of the first half at Anfield with the team making good passes, good movement and creating a couple of chances. Liverpool also had the ball in the net within the first twenty minutes as Kuyt headed home but the goal was disallowed for a push on the Lyon defender.

At 25 minutes a situation we never needed to be faced …
