Games Gone By: Manchester United 1 Liverpool 4

Image
It was a bright March morning two years ago when Liverpool fans were rising and preparing for the massive game against Manchester United. The trip to Old Trafford, the pub or even to the armchair is sometimes a nervy experience before games like this but the excitement and adrenaline always prevail.

My morning back in March 2009 consisted of me getting ready for work and having to pull myself away from the television and the ramblings of the sexist dinosaur, ahem I mean Richard Keys.

The games preceding the Manchester United fixture in March saw Liverpool beat Sunderland 2-0 and lose to Middlesborough by the same scoreline. But a brilliant 4-0 win over Real Madrid just four days earlier helped the Reds' confidence levels.

A season in which Rafael Benitez had helped fuel a title challenge meant the Manchester United result mattered more than it had done for a long while.

After the regular build up and mind games from the Manchester United camp, Liverpool quietly kept themselves t…

Gerrard Injury Is Massive Blow For Liverpool

Gerrard grips his hamstring after over 80minutes against France...
Liverpool were already in the midst of a struggle and after poor performances against Stoke and Wigan the fixture against West Ham doesn't necessarily look as pleasing as it should be.
West Ham are currently bottom of the table with just 9 points. Pressure is on Avram Grant and with a goal difference of -11, things aren't going well for the Londoners.
West Ham have injuries to Ben Haim and Hitzlsperger. Three of their players are also out due to knee injuries - Collison, Kurucz and Hines. However the team regularly fielded by Grant should not be affected.
For Liverpool we are without Lucas Leiva who received a red card against Stoke so will have to serve a one match ban. Also out are Joe Cole and Daniel Agger and of course Captain Steven Gerrard. Furious Liverpool staff blew their tops after Gerrard was played for longer than the agreed time, it wouldn't feel as bad if it wasn't a friendly but to see our nu…

Seasiders Ready For Battle Of The Pools

Will it be a sweet ending for Liverpool tomorrow?...
Premier League new comers Blackpool would usually be a blessing to read on the fixture list for Liverpool, especially at home. But after the Reds worst start in the top flight since the 53/54 season, all of a sudden confidence appears to be low.
In your head you still like to feel as though Liverpool will be down for a set win here, pop it on your accumulator it's a no brainer right? I hate to say it but tomorrow has a very strange aura about it and it feels as though if the Reds aren't careful they could be in for a kick in the teeth.
An almost fully fit Blackpool side missing only Alex Baptiste will be well up for this kind of game, along with the character and passion of manager Ian Holloway, if they can get an early goal who knows.
Of course we shouldn't and can't forget the mauling Blackpool received from title challengers Chelsea in a game they lost 4-0. Chelsea back in 08/09 were a team we were fighting with, now …

Liverpool To Get League Cup Started Against Northampton

Image
Pacheco could thrive in this sort of game...
The Reds face league two side Northampton Town tomorrow night at Anfield and Roy should surely be looking to do well in this competition with the realisation that the Premier League for Liverpool this season is more than out of reach.
It would be nice however to see a mixture of youngsters play tomorrow but also a few more experienced players. Would like to see Kelly and Pacheco start, also think Poulsen could do with some game time and players like Babel. Whatever side Roy starts you can be sure it won't be a familiar one.
Northampton are currently 17th in the league with 7 points from 7 games. Liverpool find themselves 16th in the Premier League with 5 points from 5 games.
Northampton 's last three fixtures read: LWD, for Liverpool it is the exact same reading: LWD, Liverpool's however includes a European tie against Steaua Bucharest.
Liverpool still have injuries to Fabio Aurelio and Dirk Kuyt who are both still recovering from qu…

Clash Of The Titans

Just never stops being funny does it?! Hahaha!...
So once again we're here folks. The excitement, the nerves, the bubbling hatred for the likes of Gary Neville and Farty Fergie's extra chewing gob.
This kind of feeling only tends to come around twice a year and as much as it brings out the worst in me i can't help but absolutely love it. This is what football is all about, the banter, the biggest clubs and the memorable clash of world class players going all out against each other.
Of course tomorrow evening i could be in a total different state of mind, quite possibly depressed... But this is the roller-coaster ride that we all have tickets for due to being a Liverpool fan.
Liverpool are again still without regular members in this head to head - Dirk Kuyt & Fabio Aurelio. The lack of some experience could possibly be detrimental to the Reds but with Joe Cole back from his ban and having made a great performance on Thursday along with rested Gerrard, Carragher and Torres,…
