Reds In France

Image
Hi folks, I hope you are all enjoying the summer! In the run up to the Euros I thought I'd do a quick post on the 12 Liverpool players who have made the cut.  The Reds have more players at the tournament than any other Premier League side and it could have been even more if Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren were called up. Only Italian side Juventus have the same amount of representatives, six of which are included in Antonio Conte's Italy team.

Emre CanEmre Can was perhaps one of the top three performers for Liverpool last season. Most fans would not argue against the German's efforts and it's clear he will be a mainstay in Jurgen Klopp's plans. It was no surprise to see him called up for the Germany squad however I must confess that I am unsure whether he will feature regularly under Joachim Low or just be a bit part player.
Either way he is a fantastic asset to have featuring 30 times for Liverpool in the league with an average passing accuracy of 81%. Martin Skrt…

Past Players: Volume 7 - Steve McManaman

Image
Steve McManaman is one of the Liverpool players that were around in the era that I began learning everything about Liverpool Football Club. Most people will know now that the reason I ended up supporting Liverpool was down to a brother who was obsessed with them at the time. Despite being only 10 when McManaman left I remember watching several games with my brother praising his every move but it appears that many younger fans these days and neutrals alike have no idea how good McManaman actually was, he separates opinion when it comes to his personality but he truly had a gift on the field.

The Basics

Full Name: Steven McManaman
Date Of Birth: 11th February 1972
Born in: Kirkdale, Liverpool
Height: 6ft
Position: Attacking Midfielder

Personal Life

Before signing his first contract with Liverpool McManaman was a much praised cross country runner, he even beat a former Olympian at one stage on the circuit.

Many people often forget that Steve lost his mother during his last season at Liverpool, s…

Reds Called Up For England Duties

Image
With the Euros starting on Friday, kicking off with host nation Poland facing Greece I thought it would be nice to do a round up of the Liverpool players at the England camp in Poland. Injuries to some of the England players meant that the original 4 Liverpool squad members was increased to 6 by Roy Hodgson.

Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard is England's captain for Euro 2012 as chosen by Roy Hodgson. As Liverpool's long standing captain we all know he has a real presence over 90 minutes and can encourage or spark a performance out of most players.

More so than ever though Steven Gerrard is left in a tough position because Hodgson's side this year is one of change and of youth. There's some experience next to Gerrard in Scott Parker but many of the midfielders and forwards are lacking in England caps.

Gerrard is of course more effective in a more attacking role but in this particular England set up and in Roy's plans he will have to settle for a more defensive one. The…

Past Players: Volume 5 - John Barnes

Image
I was 8 years old when John Barnes parted ways with Liverpool, for this reason i don't remember too much of the Jamaican born winger but my first memory of Barnes was watching a countdown of footballing moments programme with my Dad.

That famous moment in 1984 when John Barnes weaved through the Brazilian defence like it wasn't even there will forever amaze me, no matter how many times i replay the You Tube video. His skill in the final third at the Maracana Stadium was more like a silky smooth section of the macarena. I still struggle to this day to find many goals that live up to the calibre of that one.

So let's find out a bit more about the man they all called "Digger"...

The Basics
Full Name: John Charles Bryan Barnes
Nickname: Digger
Date Of Birth: 7th November 1963
Born in: Jamaica, Kingston
Height: 5'11"
Position: Winger

Watford

Barnes began his professional football career down South. After being spotted playing for a non league side he was given …

Past Players: Volume 4 - Michael Owen

Image
There was a time for Liverpool fans when the name "Michael Owen" was uttered, we felt proud. Nowadays however, after the Liverpool starlet went from Anfield to Bernabeu to St James' Park and then to Old Trafford, feelings have somewhat changed.

I've been meaning to do a past players post on Michael Owen for months, partly because i can start by voicing my own opinions on the saga but secondly because it's a real talking point it would be great to hear some of your thoughts in the comments or on Twitter.

As a 21 year old, i grew up with Michael Owen, from the stupid childhood crush to the amazement at his pace and ability to weave through defences, he was my idol. Back then he epitomized what Liverpool FC was to me, i loved him so much i named my pet rabbit after him, i afterwards found out the rabbit was female though poor bunny.

My brothers room was plastered with Michael Owen posters and i think it's safe to say he was my first ever favourite player. I find…

Gerrard Injury Is Massive Blow For Liverpool

Image
Gerrard grips his hamstring after over 80minutes against France...
Liverpool were already in the midst of a struggle and after poor performances against Stoke and Wigan the fixture against West Ham doesn't necessarily look as pleasing as it should be.
West Ham are currently bottom of the table with just 9 points. Pressure is on Avram Grant and with a goal difference of -11, things aren't going well for the Londoners.
West Ham have injuries to Ben Haim and Hitzlsperger. Three of their players are also out due to knee injuries - Collison, Kurucz and Hines. However the team regularly fielded by Grant should not be affected.
For Liverpool we are without Lucas Leiva who received a red card against Stoke so will have to serve a one match ban. Also out are Joe Cole and Daniel Agger and of course Captain Steven Gerrard. Furious Liverpool staff blew their tops after Gerrard was played for longer than the agreed time, it wouldn't feel as bad if it wasn't a friendly but to see our nu…

“Yes, he misses a few, but he gets in the right places to miss them.”

A great man said that - Bill Shankly. Those words were uttered in 1966, a memorable year for most fans of football, he was describing the legendary forward Roger Hunt who had a superb 11 years at Liverpool football club.

I bring this up because in case you haven't noticed, the World Cup starts this week and i figured it would be a good time to do a post i've been thinking about for a while on attitudes to the whole England versus Club argument.
I'm a massive Liverpool fan as i'm pretty sure you are all aware but you're also aware that i do not reside or come from the wonderful city that is Liverpool. Because of this (even if i wanted to) i cannot join in with the "We're not English, we are Scouse" folk.
Such is Liverpudlian humour and the wit of the Liverpool fans, i can always totally see where these people are coming from. I too will not be going absolutely mental if Wayne Rooney nets the winner against USA in a few days time, and you certainly won&…
