Boxing Day At Britannia

Image
Liverpool face Stoke on Boxing Day as they look to continue what they started against Fulham last weekend. The Reds are only 5 points off 4th place and it makes you realise what a loss means at this stage of the season, if Liverpool can do well over the festive period they could seriously propel themselves up the table.

Stoke are without Charlie Adam who has taken leave after his Father passed away. Another ex Red Michael Owen though could be available after returning from a recent injury. For Liverpool, thankfully there are no new injury worries.

The last time the two sides met was in October and the game ended in a 0-0 draw at Anfield. In terms of the Reds at Stoke there's been a lot of draws recently and Stoke also picked up wins in 2011 and 2010. This is usually the sort of game for Liverpool that would see them get just the one point but if the lads can play like they did against Fulham then Stoke could become very flustered.

Top 5 Ex Reds You Love To Hate

Image
As you'll probably remember, during last week I asked my readers on the blog and on Twitter to vote for their "Ex Reds" that they love to hate. Some hatred is evidently a bit tongue and cheek but when board members and previous owners are allowed onto the list, it's always going to get a bit heated.

Unsurprisingly those lovely leeches Hicks and Gillett topped the list followed by El Hadji Diouf, Fernando Torres, Michael Owen and Christian Purslow. So why are these five men, (well, six men really as H & G are a duo... though I'd question if either count as "men" after their shenanigans!) the top "Ex Reds" that you lot love to hate?

Christian Purslow
You voted him in at number 5, it's Christian Purslow.

With a middle name like Cecil you could be hated on that reason alone but Purslow ruffled a few feathers in his time on the Liverpool board.

He was made managing director in 2009 but before I get on to the bad I think Purslow has to be credit…

Past Players: Volume 4 - Michael Owen

Image
There was a time for Liverpool fans when the name "Michael Owen" was uttered, we felt proud. Nowadays however, after the Liverpool starlet went from Anfield to Bernabeu to St James' Park and then to Old Trafford, feelings have somewhat changed.

I've been meaning to do a past players post on Michael Owen for months, partly because i can start by voicing my own opinions on the saga but secondly because it's a real talking point it would be great to hear some of your thoughts in the comments or on Twitter.

As a 21 year old, i grew up with Michael Owen, from the stupid childhood crush to the amazement at his pace and ability to weave through defences, he was my idol. Back then he epitomized what Liverpool FC was to me, i loved him so much i named my pet rabbit after him, i afterwards found out the rabbit was female though poor bunny.

My brothers room was plastered with Michael Owen posters and i think it's safe to say he was my first ever favourite player. I find…
