Boxing Day At Britannia

Image
Liverpool face Stoke on Boxing Day as they look to continue what they started against Fulham last weekend. The Reds are only 5 points off 4th place and it makes you realise what a loss means at this stage of the season, if Liverpool can do well over the festive period they could seriously propel themselves up the table.

Stoke are without Charlie Adam who has taken leave after his Father passed away. Another ex Red Michael Owen though could be available after returning from a recent injury. For Liverpool, thankfully there are no new injury worries.

The last time the two sides met was in October and the game ended in a 0-0 draw at Anfield. In terms of the Reds at Stoke there's been a lot of draws recently and Stoke also picked up wins in 2011 and 2010. This is usually the sort of game for Liverpool that would see them get just the one point but if the lads can play like they did against Fulham then Stoke could become very flustered.

Stoke haven't lost in their last 6 Premier Le…

Liverpool Aim To Go One Better Against Arsenal

Image
After a brilliant performance against Manchester City last weekend Liverpool will certainly fancy their chances against Wenger's Arsenal side that have recently lost the extremely influential Robin van Persie. The Reds deserved to win last weekend but a couple of silly mistakes cost them.

Injury wise for Liverpool the very bad news is that Lucas Leiva will be out for up to 3 months, I'm absolutely gutted for him and wish him the speediest of recoveries. Other than that Liverpool are in a pretty strong position with Daniel Agger also returning after serving a one match ban. For Arsenal, there is a doubt hanging over Szczesny who missed their last fixture.

I can't really get through this post without discussing Friday's transfer deadline day to be honest, I'll try to make it short and sweet because this is supposed to be an Arsenal preview after all.

Friday left us without Andy Carroll, Charlie Adam and Jay Spearing. Whilst Jay Spearing and Charlie Adam were moves w…

Reds Return From North America

Image
For this season's preparations Liverpool made the trip across the pond to take part in a North American tour, facing the likes of Roma, Spurs and Toronto it was a great chance for Brendan Rodgers to get to know his squad properly and also play around with some of his many ideas.

The first match against Toronto saw the Reds grab a 1-1 draw. The Major League Soccer side were perhaps the most unfamiliar of opposition for Liverpool but that didn't stop youngster Adam Morgan getting on the score sheet.

Amarikwa scored for Toronto as a substitute in the second half but Morgan quickly cancelled out their lead with his goal just before the 70 minute mark. Raheem Sterling deserves a mention here also because it was his efforts that set up Morgan and Raheem had a brilliant game.

It was a great show all round for Liverpool's youth with Dani Pacheco impressing the crowds also.

Next up for the Reds was AS Roma. With Aquilani and Borini in the squad we'd be facing familiar oppositi…

Carroll Returns To St James' Park

Image
Liverpool make their way to the North East on Sunday as Andy Carroll looks to make a good impression on his return to St James' Park. Newcastle are currently above the Reds and are doing extremely well in their league campaign. After some poor results for Liverpool though, can the lads get all three points?

Liverpool have a few injury problems and the latest man added to the list is Charlie Adam, a knee problem keeps him out. Also out for Liverpool are Daniel Agger, Glen Johnson and Martin Kelly. Newcastle on the other hand don't have too many problems although Coloccini will be unavailable after tearing his hamstring.

The last time the two sides met was in December last year when Liverpool confidently beat Newcastle 3-1.

For a Newcastle win we only have to go back to December 2011 when  the Magpies reversed the previous scoreline and put 3 past Pepe Reina. Newcastle have quite a decent home record against Liverpool and so Sunday's fixture will not be easy for the Reds, e…

Point A Piece

Image
Liverpool had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Sunday after fighting hard against a City side that began to tire as the 90 minutes went on. Joe Hart kept the away side in the game with minutes to spare after a great save to deny Andy Carroll. Both sides had a bit of luck but neither left victorious.

The start to the game was put into great perspective after the sad news that Wales manager Gary Speed had died at the age of 42, applause and silence was given to his memory and also respect was paid to Brad Jones and his wife after the loss of their son Luca to leukemia before kick off.

Craig Bellamy was pulled out of the game due to his close relationship with Gary Speed undoubtedly having an effect on his emotions and preparedness to play.

Man City were the most lively of the two sides to start with, after a spell of twenty minutes or so with Liverpool having to deal with a string of attacks. Efforts from Yaya Toure and Silva were dealt with but it was certainly Mancini's sid…

Carroll Converts In Baggies Win

Image
Charlie Adam and Andy Carroll sent Liverpool to a 2-0 win on Saturday at the Hawthorns. A penalty decision for the Reds got them under way and a goal just before half time ensured the three points.

West Brom were pretty absent throughout the 90 minutes and for a side who have been in great form of late after winning two local derbies, they certainly didn't have much to show for it.

The penalty decision at 8 minutes annoyed West Brom manager Roy Hodgson and so too the home fans. Without beating around the bush, i thought it was a penalty, none of this "it was harsh" nonsense, i just think it was a penalty. Suarez was tripped and i don't really see what people were complaining about but to be honest, even if the penalty wasn't given, what were West Brom doing to change their fortunes? Nothing.

Charlie Adam stepped up to take the penalty and confidently put the ball past Ben Foster to send Liverpool ahead.

In a game which didn't include Gerrard or Carragher, eye…

Hillsborough Debate & Rangers Friendly

Image
A landmark day in the fight for justice when this evening Hillsborough was debated in the house of commons. A truly moving and inspirational opening speech by Steve Rotherham was applauded by the house and families watching in the gallery.

The home secretary has promised to release the files without making any changes to them and handing them over to the panel and the families. These groups will then be able to decide whether information will be taken out, i.e. medical records etc that would be no benefit to the public.
It's been 22 years since that fateful day in April of 1989 and nobody has ever given up hope on finding out the truth.
MP's from all over the country stood up in the house of commons this evening and made it clear that they all wanted the same thing, for the families to finally step that little bit more closer to the truth and to justice.
Here's hoping that once the panel have sifted through the masses of new information, the report that is released will f…

Will Gerrard Start Against Wolves?

Image
Liverpool face Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow at Anfield as they look to get back to winning ways in the Premier League. Putting the win over Brighton aside, the Reds have hit a bit of bad form of late, losing to both Stoke and Tottenham on the trot.

Wolves aren't having the best run either, they too were winners in their league cup tie against Millwall but a defeat at the hands of Queens Park Rangers at home and a loss to Tottenham too mean they are also looking to get some points on the board.

As you should all know by now, Wolves are probably the team i know the most about aside from obviously the boys in red. Living in Wolverhampton has it's upsides i suppose and cutting down research before blog posts is one of them!

Steven Fletcher did not feature against Millwall for Wolves but it is believed he may be available to start tomorrow. From the Wanderers' point of view this would be a massive bonus as Ebanks - Blake is still injured and Kevin Doyle has been rather dir…

Spurs Send Four Past Lacklustre Liverpool

Image
Liverpool fell to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham this afternoon and went down to 9 men in the process. Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel both received their marching orders in a poor game for the Reds. A sublime strike from Modric led the way for the home side and three more goals were sent past a frustrated Pepe Reina before the 90 minutes were up.

One change to the Liverpool side saw Dirk Kuyt dropped and Andy Carroll chosen to start up front with Luis Suarez.

Harry Redknapp's side were keen to stamp their authority on the game early on and after a bout of possession their first goal came just after 6 minutes in. Reina was unable to do anything to prevent the strike from Modric, a fantastic goal taken from 25 yards out.

Liverpool were already way behind the pace and picked up a few problems in the first half. Charlie Adam found himself booked just after the 10 minute mark, Mike Jones the referee appeared to be pretty trigger happy though and was dishing out the cards like …

Bolton Win Takes Liverpool Top Of The Table

Image
Of course this could all change within a few hours but let's enjoy it ay?!

With three different goalscorers yesterday and Suarez not even on the score sheet, it was a sublime 90 minutes at Anfield for Dalglish's boys. The passing was flowing beautifully, Lucas was a monstrous shield to his defence and the back four when required were solid themselves.

Liverpool took just fifteen minutes to get their first goal. A stunning outside boot pass from Luis Suarez caused problems in the box, Stewart Downing's shot was saved by Jaaskelainen but the ball was not yet out of danger for Bolton.

Jordon Henderson was at the ready and a lovely strike on his left foot got him his first Liverpool goal.

I must say Henderson out of the three big new signings in midfield has perhaps been the one less involved in peoples conversations, because of the immediate impact of Downing and Adam, people were forgetting to praise the stints put in by the 21 year old. It was great yesterday to see him so…

Suarez Nets In Sunderland Score Draw

Image
First of all folks may i say how nice it is to be back blogging! If you didn't know i was in Majorca for 10 days hence the missing Valencia post, whilst i was out there i luckily managed to watch the Liverpool match in an Irish bar, it was bloody sweltering heat and i had to squint all the way through the match but I'm glad i got to watch it all instead of relying on highlights for a quick round up.

For the Reds first game of the season Dalglish shook things up a bit, in the starting eleven brand new signing Jose Enrique was given his chance, Dirk Kuyt had been dropped for Jordan Henderson. Downing started with Lucas and Adam in midfield. Reina in goal with Flanagan, Carragher and Agger in front of him and the strike force consisted of Carroll and Suarez.

It didn't take long at all for Liverpool to put a spark into the game. Referee Phil Dowd had his first major decision early on in the match after Suarez was brought down by Richardson in the box. I'm not Phil Dowd…

Liverpool Score Six In Malaysia

Image
Charlie Adam gets off the mark for Liverpool...
It was another game filled with goals for Liverpool in the impressive stadium in Kuala Lumpar. Filled to the rafters with Liverpool fans, i think the Malaysia XI may have felt a bit small.

Kenny Dalglish was missing from the sidelines as he's home sorting out the the small matter of Stewart Downing. Also this week we've waved goodbye to Paul Konchesky. Good luck getting along with his Mom Leicester!

Anyway...

Liverpool got off the mark with a Charlie Adam penalty. His first goal in a Red shirt was delayed slightly after being forced to take his penalty again. He put both in the back of the net and sent Liverpool on their way. A soft penalty decision i thought but never mind ay?

Malaysia XI equalised shortly after with a super free kick from their captain, Brad Jones could do little to stop it.

Ngog went on to score twice in the second half. His first after a little bit of luck when the Malaysian defence had a lapse of concentratio…

Deal Agreed For Charlie Adam

Image
CA: "I put this suit on just for you... and check the belt buckle." KD: "Hahaha, you should nae have bothered lad."
It's been a long time coming but the rumours surrounding Blackpool player Charlie Adam and Liverpool FC have finally been cleared up. Last night it was Stewart Downing dominating the tweets but after Aston Villa apparently rejected the £15million offer from Liverpool attentions turned elsewhere.

The 25 year old was linked strongly with Liverpool in the January transfer window but the deal never came to fruition. Believed to be in the region of £8 - 9million  the second deal of the window for Liverpool appears to suggest that Dalglish and co are trying to revamp the midfield. With exits in that area of the pitch also highly anticipated it is good to see some action in the window.

Dalglish will surely be raring to go with the Scottish midfielder and with the Asia Tour getting closer and closer it would be nice to see Adam alongside Henderson for Live…

Liverpool Remain In Relegation Zone As Pressure Rises For Roy

Image
GET OUT OF OUR CLUB!
No. It's not a dream folks, Liverpool after 7 games are in the relegation zone. Perched in the very undesirable 18th position above Wolves and West Ham with just 6 points despite having played beatable opposition in terms of Birmingham, Sunderland and now Blackpool.
Fernando Torres leaving the field spelt bad news for the Reds from the start but the lack of heart from the players, the unworkable set up from Roy, not to mention his forced move to use Carragher as a left back meant Liverpool in the end didn't deserve to win. Blackpool played well and i think it's important that we don't just highlight our poor display but give them credit.
Roy's XI was a bit of a mixture this time, as mentioned with all out natural left backs injured and usual recovery man Agger also out, he opted to push Carragher out to the left. Glen Johnson was on the right with Skrtel and Kyrgiakos in the centre and Reina in goal.
Midfield was made up of Meireles on the right (?…
