Who Is Georginio Wijnaldum?

Image
Liverpool have completed the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum from Rafael Benitez's Newcastle United for £25 million but just who exactly is the young Dutch talent?

He started his career at Feyenoord making his debut in 2007 and in the process becoming the youngest player to ever start for the club. Wijnaldum played a total of 134 matches for Feyenoord scoring 25 goals and creating 11 assists in the process.

In 2011 he moved on to Dutch giants PSV for approximately five million euros. Wijnaldum netted his first goal for PSV on 21st August 2011 at the age of 21. By the 2013/2014 season he had been named captain of the side however he was unable to feature regularly due to a back injury. In the following season he captained the side to their first league title in seven years. During his time at PSV Wijnaldum scored a total of 56 goals in 152 appearances.

The year 2015 saw the attacking midfielder come to England joining Newcastle United for £14.5 million. In the October of his first s…

Reds Falter At Newcastle

Liverpool failed to get the better of Newcastle United at St James' Park on Sunday in what should have been a straightforward match for the Reds. Despite not being awarded a clearly onside goal, Klopp's side can't really complain after a persuasive performance from the Magpies.
Liverpool began the game with Christian Benteke up front. There was no room for hat trick scoring Divock Origi or the recently returned Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson. While it is understandable the boss perhaps didn't want to risk the latter two so early after coming back from injury, I don't think the set up favoured Benteke who looked lost for the majority of his game.
I've said it over and over both before and since we signed Benteke, there is zero point in starting him if you aren't going to support him. I don't have stats for crosses yesterday but I can guarantee you it was a measly figure. Some argue that it is partly the striker's fault an…

Liverpool travel to St James' Park on Sunday, after putting six past Southampton in the week. The Reds look like a formidable force under Jürgen Klopp and are performing even better away from home.
Injuries for Liverpool mean they are without Philippe Coutinho and Emre Can who is suspended for this game. Daniel Sturridge on the other hand could make his first start in the Premier League for two months. For Newcastle, they are without Mike Williamson who they have only recently recalled from Wolves where he was on loan. Tiote also looks to be a doubt for this fixture.
The last time the two sides met was in April this year when the Reds put two past a ten man Newcastle at Anfield. Our last trip to St James' Park ended in a loss when Perez scored at 72 minutes to seal all three points for the Magpies. In fact trips to Newcastle have not always ended kindly for the Reds but a 6-0 victory in April 2013 certainl…
