Let's Put Things Into Perspective

RB:"Your scarf makes you look like a pillock." .........."I'm serious."
Liverpool had to settle for just the 1 point yesterday, after both teams failed to score in a 0-0 stalemate. Despite the massive boosts of Torres and Benayoun making shock appearances on the bench and also being utilised, the lads could not get anything past Shay Given.
Neither side really caused problems for each others goal keeper with Reina only being called to make one super save and Given much the same.
City were without Tevez and did not opt to start Craig Bellamy, they were set up in a similar fashion to ourselves and it appears that both formations were cancelling each other out.
In a post match interview Benitez was quoted saying that the idea was to try and break City down but it just didn't work... Too right it didn't.
Before we get all up in arms about it though, let's take a step back and analyse things properly.
Let's look at Aston Villa's run in first...

Can We Do The Double Over Everton?

Image
Jealousy is a very noticeable emotion.
Liverpool are sitting on a mountain of confidence, rejuvenated and also able to pull out the bag the fact we are on an unbeaten run of 6 games, we are perfectly poised for a clash with our closest rivals.

But what do the blue half have to show for themselves, well with the added bonus of some of their more familiar faces coming back from injury, they also have a a run of 5 games unbeaten in their last 6 matches.

Like ourselves, they are also only in one remaining competition, the Europa League, and also like ourselves they have a big game directly after we both meet. Everton having Chelsea at home and ourselves facing Arsenal at The Emirates.

With the recent form of our defence, perhaps notably down to a certain Greek it is no secret that fans are expecting a similar solid display from the back four. We all remember last year, Cahill punching the corner flag on more than one occasion after highlighting Liverpool's fallible display against set pi…

Opportunity

Next on the fixture list for Liverpool this year is Portsmouth, with new manager Avram Grant, Pompey do appear to be on the up albeit slightly, still Liverpool must look at this as a fantastic opportunity to finally go on some sort of a winning run. With Wolves next up at Anfield this is a brilliant chance for the lads to gain some ground.
Liverpool are still without the options of Martin Kelly, Nabil El Zhar and Ryan Babel. However Albert Riera and Glen Johnson will both be subject to late fitness tests. Hopefully this will come good and will provide greater choice for Benitez on Saturday.
Portsmouth's recent form does not make excellent reading but when you take into consideration that within these 5 fixtures they have played Chelsea, Villa and Manchester United, it doesn't seem so bad - LLWDL. Althoguh they lost to Chelsea on Wednesday, in all fairness they had alot of the ball and alot of the attack, they could have won it if it wasn't for a bad tackle on Ivanovic which …

A Game Of Two Halves

Image
Arsenal repeated a bit of history yesterday as it was the first time since 2003 that Liverpool had lost a game at Anfield after taking the lead. Arsenal were the team responsible in '03 and here they are 6 years later at it again.

It was a very clear cut game straight down the middle, we saw one Liverpool the first half and another one the second. Again you could argue luck was not on our side, the referee made some bad decisions and many other things but I'm not really one for excuses this time out.

Liverpool started brilliantly, with the re-ignition of the Gerrard and Torres partnership it wasn't long before the pair were back to old tricks. Most notably the brilliant link up when Gerrard finds himself in space on a great run Fernando Torres has already set off, awaiting that perfect ball through. Gerrard waits and waits until he places the perfect pass to the feet of the number 9, in a position we've seen him score from so many times before, his attempt to bend it ro…

Liverpool Suffer Champions League Knock

Image
So,we're down but we are definitely not out. We all expected the trip to Italy to be a tough tie but i don't think many were expecting the lashing Liverpool appeared to get tonight. The viola's star player who i read about this morning in several articles was definitely portrayed correctly as "a threat".

Benitez fielded a side with one swap, the injured Mascherano out for Aurelio who would be sitting on the left wing for the start of this Champions League match. A rocky start to say the least after a rather slow opening to the game but it began to become a bit more lively for Fiorentina who had started the match in exactly the right mind-set by the looks of things.

Dirk Kuyt and Glen Johnson appeared to be the only means of attack running up to the 20minutes mark after several pushes forward were confidently stopped by the experienced back four of Fiorentina. As for the Italians the young Jovetic was already causing our defence some havoc, with his skill and speed …

Liverpool 6 Hull 1

Image
A brilliant display from the Red's this afternoon with the highlight being on the hat-trick hero Fernando Torres. Steven Gerrard also was back onto the score sheet and super sub Ryan Babel made an impressive impact with two goals after coming off the bench. Hull's only offer was an equalizer from Geovanni which didn't last long.

The Red's got on with the job in hand fairly early into the first half with Torres setting off the scoring just after the ten minute mark, he picked up a lovely cross from Riera on the left wing and swiftly side stepped Sonko with ease, once the space was created he slotted the ball home. Just 5 minutes later and were in the same situation we have been in several times within our last few premier league fixtures and we had lost the lead already. A somewhat clumsy header from Martin Skrtel is headed into the path of Geovanni who takes full advantage and the ball flies into the net. 1-1.
At this still early stage i find myself bewildered, why is th…
