We Have Never Lost To The Latics

Image
The big Greek has served his ban, could he be back to face Wigan?
In the Premier League we have always walked away with a bare minimum of at least 1 point when facing Wigan, and tomorrow is no time to change that fact.
Wigan are a rather funny footballing side, at the moment they are not going too well when it comes to winning games either. Their last recorded win was at Molineux against Wolves where they won the game 2-0. This result came in the latter half of Januray and although Wigan have mustered some draws and perhaps been unlucky in some fixtures, they are still in the midst of a struggle.
However, in my eyes, Wigan are exactly one of those sides that can prove to be a stumbling block for Liverpool. Just like Portsmouth, it is always the sides many people feel confident we can beat that i fear most. Perhaps this is because when you play a side like Wigan, the automatic expectation adds a lot of pressure and although this should not affect the players i think in some senses it can ge…

Let's Hope It's More Entertaining Than Last Time

Fat...(igued)?
Liverpool will face Blackburn tomorrow in another Sunday fixture, these are set to become more prominent as we continue our run in the Europa League.
Our last meeting with Blackburn earlier in the season ended in a rather disappointing 0-0 draw. So there is no doubt Liverpool will be looking to improve on the previous outcome.
We currently sit 6th with a tally of 45 points. Tottenham are to face Everton tomorrow, Villa will not be playing a Premier League fixture this weekend due to their League Cup Final clash with Manchester United.
After Manchester City managed to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge today 4-2 that leaves us slightly on the back foot. However, providing we can get a win that will see us just the one point behind City.
In all honesty, looking at our recent results and the fact that we are at home for this clash, you have to feel quite confident against Sam Allardyce's Blackburn side.
Allardyce appears confident that Blackburn can somehow capitalize on Liver…

We Gave Arsenal Their Boost

Image
Just in case you missed it.
They had been outdone by United and outdone by Chelsea, unfortunately, Liverpool who make up the big four could not enforce a similar humiliation of a weak looking Arsenal side.
Before we go on though, in all honesty, was anybody realistically expecting much? Although i felt as though we "could" get a win, it was the draw that was looking more feasible and definitely acceptable, but after calming down from the result yesterday, i don't know about your selves but there is a strange feeling of "I'm not really surprised."
We have never won at The Emirates, Arsenal had a point to prove, we are lacking attacking options at the moment, throw in the loss of Kyrgiakos, the forced substitution of Jamie Carragher and Howard Webb's bad eyesight then you have a recipe for Arsene Wenger's bragging rights breakfast.
Let's not fall back on refereeing decisions, substitutions and missing players though because the performance was just no…

Liverpool Crash Out Of FA Cup

Image
I asked in my last blog post whether Liverpool could mount a serious challenge in the FA Cup, the answer?
A resounding no.
Even if that fluky own goal from Bertrand was what allowed us to scrape through, i still wouldn't have felt confident even against Burnley on the basis of that performance.
Very disappointed and it truly does feel like a new low at this moment in time, this loss is not like any other from the rest of the season, this one feels like a turning point.
Question is, what will be the change? Because all i know is the lads need a massive boost. Soon.
The starting 11 was again a very strong one put out by Rafa, who realised the importance of progress through the competition. With the only exception perhaps being Cavalieri in goal and Degen starting due to Johnson still being out, it was a full force team from the boss.
Even with the majority of our key players on the pitch, the spark was never there. Reading appeared comfortable for the majority of the first half and it was…

Bad Weather, Transfers And Abusive Emails

Image
Not three components you often expect to see in the title of a blog post but yes, they are the three most topical things surrounding Liverpool at the moment. After being unable to do my match preview yesterday due to our Tottenham fixture being postponed i thought i should fill the gap with a post about general goings on.
So like i just mentioned snow has caused havoc for the majority of Premier League clubs this weekend with only two games being played yesterday and none at all today. Liverpool filed for the option to postpone today's game on Friday after it was deemed that the areas surrounding the ground were simply too treacherous and rightly so, the safety of fans was put first.
With the lads due to face Reading on Wednesday for the second leg of the FA Cup tie it is quite possible that this fixture will be called off too. Reading themselves were also subject to postponing their own game yesterday against Newcastle and with this bad weather not looking to let up for a while th…

A Treat Was Far From On The Card's Today As Liverpool Crash To Frightful Defeat

Image
Almost an indescribable stream of events at Craven Cottage today for a yo-yoing Liverpool side. After triumphantly beating Manchester United in superb style last weekend Liverpool suffered a 3-1 defeat to a rampant Fulham who were determined to punish at maximum for Liverpool's mistakes.

The starting eleven under the circumstances was a good team, the only exception being Kygriakos, Voronin and possibly Degen depending on how you look at him. Despite this, the fact is, that 11 were more than capable of coming away from Craven Cottage with 3 points. At minimum a draw, that team had too much talent/experience in to fall to a defeat.
The starting eleven in the first half were clearly the better side, with bags of possession and numerous shots, it should have only have been a matter of time before we netted. 24 minutes and in the midst of a Liverpool dominated half Zamora is allowed to send his chance goal bound and against the run of things Liverpool are left trailing in the first half…

Liverpool Exit Carling Cup After Losing 2-1 To Arsenal

Image
A good performance from the lads at The Emirates this evening but unfortunately not good enough. Liverpool lost 2-1 after finding it difficult at the final push to get an equaliser but despite the defeat there were positives aplenty to gain from this match.

The starting eleven consisted of several players we rarely see in Liverpool's first eleven so tonight's game gave us another insight into the players that are shadowed by Liverpool's first choices.

Kyrgiakos;
After just coming back from an injury that was orginally thought to have been worse than it actually was the Greek was somewhat of a presence in the defence for Liverpool tonight. In all honesty he didn't have a superb game, a few silly mistakes were made but between himself and Skrtel tonight i would say he was the more defensively sound.

It was a good chance to look at his dominance in defence as i had heard alot about his strength and power he used at AEK Athens and also his invaluable experience. I hope he cont…

Liverpool 1 Leeds 0

Image
May i start by saying this match was almost nothing like what i was expecting, i thought it would be end to end stuff but not in a sense that both teams would be goalless for the majority of the match, i thought this was going to be a scrappy affair with 4+ goals in the game. My prediction was way out, but never mind ay? I'm not mystic Meg.
So 9 changes made from the manager for this fixture which was unsurprising really.
Team sheet;

Cavalieri
Carragher
Aurelio
Degen
Krygiakos
Dossena
Riera
Spearing
Mascherano
N'Gog
Babel
So Leeds got the start to our League Cup campaign underway. The first distinctive moment of the game was in fact a Leeds goal which was disallowed as it was claimed to be offside. I myself at first thought the referee had made a good decision but after seeing the clip several times now it is clear the referee had got it wrong. Both Beckford and Becchio were onside when the ball was played. The confusion was caused though as it first appeared Beckford had got a touch to the…
