Football Blogging Awards 2016 / Southampton Preview

Image
So, I went along to Old Trafford for the 2016 Football Blogging Awards last night and, as always it was a brilliant night. For those new to the blog, I've been attending (sometimes winning the odd award too haha) The FBAs since they started back in 2012. The event has come a very long way since its humble beginnings in Stockport so Anthony the organiser must be praised for that.

I was sat on a table with some of the guys from the superb @AnfieldHQ and also a young up-and-coming Man City blogger/youtuber named Omar who runs @CitizensTelly so please do give them a follow!

One of the highlights of the night was the hilarity that ensued when Stevi Ritchie (bloke who was once on X Factor) began to sing You'll Never Walk Alone. I'd already had enough of seeing Fergie's face round every corner so blasting out a rendition of #YNWA inside Old Trafford was more than enough to cheer me up, absolute quality haha.

For anybody I got chatting to on the night, as always it was great to…

MATCH PREVIEW: Manchester City V Liverpool (Plus Football Blogging Awards Round Up)

Image
Firstly can I just say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for The Liver Bird and got me onto the shortlist for "Best Established Blog" at this year's Football Blogging Awards. Unfortunately there was no win this year but congratulations to deserved winners; The Football Pink and Goalden Times.

Despite walking away without a trophy this year I still feel like one of life's winners after meeting an absolute legend; John Barnes. He was invited to the event by Ladbrokes and I went over to get a photo with him earlier in the night, he praised my phone case which has a Liverpool emblem on it too haha. Things got even better though when we found ourselves queueing behind Digger himself for a pie at the buffet.

I saw my chance and I took it, "So John, what do you think of Jurgen Klopp?" I asked. In a nutshell, he really likes our new manager but he stressed that he's not going to turn things around quickly with the team he has, he needs time. He made a val…

If you've escaped the news up to yet you've done pretty darn well but last night after tootling up to Manchester on my ones I ended up picking up the award for "Best Female Blog" as voted for by the fans at the Football Blogging Awards!

I was absolutely over the moon to receive the award and it was a pleasure to be presented it by the lovely Kate Riley from Sky Sports News.

As I mentioned I had to attend the awards on my own this year as my mates and fella were either workin…

Goals Galore In Derby Draw

Image
It was an electric Merseyside derby on Saturday as both the Blue and Red sides of Liverpool found the back of the net on three occasions. An end to end game with neither side intent on defending a lead, it was a shining example for football in the Premier League from two of its most famous clubs.

Liverpool were forced to make some changes to their line up after the fitness of Daniel Sturridge was called into question and Jose Enrique had to be left out. Jon Flanagan got a big chance to impress in the Liverpool defence whilst for Everton they had youngster Barkley plying his trade.

I've started several match previews here on The Liver Bird this season with something along the lines of "the game started in a lively fashion" and it was certainly no different for this fixture!

Liverpool took just four minutes to get onto the score sheet via the magical Philippe Coutinho. His goal may not have been pulled out of a hat but it didn't matter, he was in the right place at th…

THE LIVER BIRD!

How utterly brilliant is that?! For those of you sitting there thinking, what the hell have you won? I find myself staring back at you asking where the hell have you been?

If you follow me on Twitter there is no way you will have escaped the knowledge that I was in a list of nominees for the best Female blog category in the Football Blogging Awards.

Being on the short list and never one to turn down an invite to a shindig I managed to circle up two guests (a farcical amount I know) and off we headed on Saturday afternoon to Manchester.

We'd booked two hotels both on the outskirts of the city, usually in these sort of posts I'd have a strategically placed jolly anecdote to do with our travels but nothing happened, not even traffic on the M6, mental.

My good mate Josh drove me and the fella there and back and it's a fair drive from Wolverhampton so cheers for that!

Anyway...

We eventually grabbed a taxi and headed out to Stockport for the event I have been ge…

Liverpool Fixtures 2012/2013

Image
The fixtures were released today much to the excitement of many a Liverpool fan ready and eager to find out who exactly Brendan Rodgers would face in his first game as Liverpool manager. As it turns out it will be away to Steve Clarke's West Brom.

The first three home games have got many talking as the Reds will have to face Manchester City, Arsenal and then Manchester United on the bounce at Anfield. There's no hiding from the fact that this is a difficult start but to be the best you have to beat the best and plus, if you look at it with a neutral head, if Brendan's boys win these games or get some good results we'll be laughing but even if they don't they have the large portion of the season to focus on before these fixtures swing round again. I say bring it on!

One thing most people like to do is look at the fixtures closest to their birthday and for me it's Newcastle at Anfield the day before.

Brendan will have to wait until the 24th November to face his …
